IRRIGATION

Choose a schedule and set your clock accordingly.
Schedule A is for those who want to continue stretching their water use.
Schedule B is for those who want to conserve water, but feel they need to water a little more.
We recommend using Schedule B for the next 60 days. If, after 60 days the temperatures are above normal, then continue to use this schedule.

Split your watering time into thirds.

Water the 1st interval at 1:00 A.M.,
the 2nd interval at 3:00 A.M. and
the 3rd interval at 5:00 Am.

Remember when you divide your watering time into thirds, leave a 2 hour minimum dryout period in between the intervals. Similarly, when you divide your watering time in half, then the recommended dryout period in between the 2 intervals is 4 hours.

Don't let a dry spot in the lawn or landscape cause you grief! Take a deep breath and remember that dry spots are primarily caused by simple irrigation problems that you can solve immediately. Listed below are some examples:

  • A dry spot on the lawn is often due to a clogged pop-up that's blocking the water flow.
  • If an out of adjustment sprinkler is missing its target area, simply take a screwdriver and adjust the screw on top of the nozzle while the water is running.
  • Ground covers that have twisted themselves around risers end up obstructing the water flow.Cut the ground cover off of the riser
  • A shrub can obstruct sprinkler performance by growing in front of it. Simply relocate the sprinkler or shrubbery.

Don't hesitate; aerate. Aerating creates channels in the soil that fill up with water,
allowing a deeper saturation to the root zone. It also reduces soil compaction,
which is very common in clay soil and in large grassy areas where sports games are played.

When temperatures exceed 95 degrees, water your yard for 1 cycle that evening
to replace the water it lost during transpiration.
